Do not grow weary, O she-camel, of the long journey,

لا تسأمي يا ناق طول السري

1. Do not grow weary, O she-camel, of the long journey,
For the signs of Wadi al-Qura have appeared.

١. لا تسأمي يا ناق طول السري
فقد بدت أعلام وادي القرى

2. Do not be bored with traversing the breadth of the deserts,
Or the toil of travel, or pulling the saddlebags.

٢. ولا تملي قطع عرض الفلا
وشدة السير وجذب البرى

3. For I have offered my soul in love of the one
I journeyed to, and that beloved bought it.

٣. فقد عرضت الروح في حب من
سرت إليه والحبيب اشترى

4. Tomorrow you will see the abode populated,
And the beauty of the one you love manifest.

٤. غدا ترين الدار مأهولة
وحسن من تهوين قد أسفرا

5. So journey, may God guide you in this gloom,
With His light the gloom becomes illuminated.

٥. فأسري هداك الله في ذا الدجى
بنوره يلق الدجى مقمرا

6. Good tidings—this abode has been illuminated,
And these are the lights of the best of mankind.

٦. بشراك هذي الدار قد اشرقت
وهذه أنوار خير الورى

7. I sought from the most generous of mankind his munificence,
So receive good news from him.

٧. قصدت من عم الوري جوده
فاستبشري منه بحسن القري

8. Journey in God's name and in the name of the one
Whose remembrance is the mark of faith.

٨. سيري على اسم اللهواسم الذي
علامة افيمان أن يذكرا

9. And forgive the tears shed in love of him
For many tears have flowed in that path.

٩. واغتفري الأدمع في حبه
ففي سبيل الدمع ما قد جري

10. Muhammad al-Mukhtar of Hashim's clan,
The purest of mankind in lineage.

١٠. محمد المختار من هاشم
أزكى الورى كلهم عنصرا

11. Possessor of the magnificent miracles
The least of which, if enumerated, would be too great to limit.

١١. ذو المعجزات الباهرات التي
أصغرها يكبر أن يحصرا

12. Journey in God's name, for He has honored him,
He journeyed and God honored his journey.

١٢. أسري به الله فأكرم به
سار وأكرم بسراه سري

13. The sapling inclined from yearning for him
When he ascended the pulpit.

١٣. حن إليه الجذع من حسرة
عليه لما صعد المنبرا

14. And the palm tree praised him in his hand,
And water gushed forth from it copiously.

١٤. وسبح الجلمد في كفه
وفاض منه الماء مثغجرا

15. He satisfied a thousand, nay more,
From a cooking pot of half a saa or more.

١٥. وأشبع الألف وما فوقها
من قدر نصف الصاع أو أكثرا

16. And he restored to their place branches
Of a tree, which became as if never severed.

١٦. وقد عوداً لأمري ماله
سيف فاضحى صار ما أبترا

17. And he returned an eye that had been gouged out,
So that its owner saw again from that time.

١٧. ورد عيناً فقد فاغتدي
صاحبها من وقته مبصرا

18. Would that I draw near to you and that your cheek
Kissed the earth before your door.

١٨. أن يدنني وخدك من بابه
قبلت ما بين يديك الثرى

19. I will not cease my journey to you after it
Except journeying to you early in the morning.

١٩. ولم أكفك السري بعدها
إلا إليه رائحاً مبكراً

20. Oh what anguish that the distance kept me from you
Though you are the nearest thing to behold!

٢٠. واحسرتاً طال المدا دونه
مع أنه أقرب شيء يرى

21. Be patient, my heart, bearing what
It suffers of passion, so that you remain patient.

٢١. اصبر القلب وبأبي لما
يلقى من الشواق أن يصبرا

22. Though I hear that we will soon meet,
My fire is not quenched unless I see you.

٢٢. اسمع بالقرب ولكنني
لا تنطفي ناري حتى أرى

23. A fragrant breeze has stirred my fever,
And lightning flashed in its plains.

٢٣. أحد ريحاً خطرت بالحمى
وبارقاً في ساحتيه سرى

24. They said tomorrow we will come nearer, but oh what anguish!
Would that with my life tomorrow could be bought!

٢٤. قالوا غدا ندنو فواحسرتا
لو كان بالعمر غد يشترى

25. O night that remains, do you think
Ahmad will appear in your morning's journey?

٢٥. يا ليلة قد بقيت هل ترى
