1. Is the one who left home after separation drawing near,
Or is the expatriate returning to his homeland?

2. Or do you see the pages of ruin reveal to me
A transient beauty whose cheeks time has plundered?

3. And it was related that the tortured one was mentioned, so
In my breast from intense longing the fire flares up.

4. So do you see if I listen closely
As they say to me, “Stop, this is the mountain path!”

5. And do you yield when I came to the pass
Between me and the mosque and the barriers veil it?

6. So I look upon the sublime sanctuary and its dweller,
And the land weeps, below it the clouds.

7. And I kiss the dust in reverence before it. And does
Kissing the earth fulfill even some of what is owed?

8. And if they freed my face I would race to it
If propriety and virtue had not banned him from it.

9. There my passions are extinguished and my eyelids cooled,
And this anguish departs me.

10. And I care not about losing a life after
I found what I had hoped for and awaited.

11. This, if I was strong enough to do it
Alone, and desire did not dissuade me from my stance,

12. And if a mighty one undertook it, one who knows
What I know, he would tarry there perturbed,

13. But the station of acceptance cannot be attained
By a newcomer, neither easily nor with hardship.

14. And he from whom guidance flowed, no horizon remains
Except that its light from him was obtained.

15. Muhammad, master of masters, more virtuous than any
Whose faith was raised above the cosmos in rank,

16. Muhammad the chosen one, the guide whom
The prophets of God and the scriptures bore witness to,

17. He by whom the Sacred House was purified after
Idols and statues had adorned the Kaaba,

18. And the palace of Chosroes split open from above
On the day of his birth, its flames extinguished,

19. And jinn blocked from hearing, for whose ascent
They had climbed, and meteors plunged towards it.
