1. How often I deceive myself to ask of him,
By God, who made licit the blood of the lover?
١. كَمْ قُلْتُ مُغالِطاً لِكَيْ أَسأَلَهُ
بِاللَّه دَمُ المُحبِّ مَنْ حَلَّلَهُ
2. My death by aloofness, who shall absolve it?
He who reproaches me for love of you, blame to him!
٢. قَتْلي لَكَ بِالصُّدودِ مَنْ سَبَّلهُ
مَنْ يَعذِلني عَلَيْكَ فالسَّبُّ لَهُ
