نعم هي الدار من يناديها

1. Yes, it is the abode, whoever calls it,
And it has become passionate at the living place of its caller,

١. نَعَم هي الدارُ مَنْ يُنادِيهَا
وَقَدْ حَمَتْ عِنْدَ حَيّ نادِيها

2. Exalt it in passion, and honor it,
That I bestow affection on other than its caller.

٢. أُجِلِّها في الهَوَى وأُكْرِمُهَا
أَنْ أَمْنَحَ الوُدَّ غَيْرَ نَادِيهَا

3. How much of its flourishing spring has elated me,
Its blooming delighted me with its glow and bloom,

٣. كَمْ راقني مِنْ رَبيعِ أَرْبُعِها
زَاهِرهَا بَهْجَةً وَزَاهِيها

4. It brought joy to all its lovers and companions,
With the light of its lamp.

٤. تَهْدِي بِنَوَّارِ نَيِّرِها
سَائِر عُشَّاقِهَا وَسارِيهَا

5. And how many beauties we have secretly gotten together in it,
Which its walls and guards protect.

٥. وَكَمْ بِهَا مِنْ مَصُونةٍ صُلْنا
يَحْجبها غَيْرهَا ويَحْمِيها

6. In it her jewelry glistened, and her smile,
And the fragrance of her breath and her friendship.

٦. نَمَّ بِهَا حُلْيها ومَبْسَمُهَا
وَطِيبُ أَنفاسِهَا وَوَانِيها

7. The patience of the lover has diminished from firmness,
As beauty lined her with meanings.

٧. نَقَصَ صَبْرُ المُحبّ مِنْ ثَمدٍ
مَا كَحَّل الحُسْنُ مِنْ مَعانيها

8. A garden of beauty that melts the firmly resolved,
Reviving the heart of the lovesick, her herdsman.

٨. رَوْضَةُ حُسْنٍ يُذيب مِنْ وَلهٍ
شادن قَلْبِ المُحبّ راعيها

9. An orchard whose fragrances were only watered,
By the tears of those who came to it.

٩. وَدَوْحَةٌ لَمْ تَضُعْ رَوائِحُهَا
إِلَّا سَقَتْهَا عُيُونُ غَادِيهَا

10. So who will protect the lover from distress,
Which her exuberance and awakening have aroused?

١٠. فَمَنْ يُجِيرُ المُحِبَّ مِنْ مُقَلٍ
عَرْبَدَ نَشْوانُهَا وَصَاحِيها

11. And from tears my eyes freely shed,
Matching what her thorns have ripped.

١١. وَمِنْ ثُغورٍ دَمْعي الطّليقُ بِهَا
شَقيقُ ما افْتَرَّ مِنْ أَقاحيها

12. And from cheeks that are blooming with roses,
If her beloved's state turned against her beloved.

١٢. وَمِنْ خدودٍ بالوردِ يانعةً
إن لاحَ جَانِيهِ حَالَ جَانيها

13. And from slender waists, which if they bend languidly,
Beauty distinguishes in its bending.

١٣. وَمِنْ قُدودٍ إذا انْثَنَتْ هَيَفاً
أَفْردَهَا الحسنُ في تَثنِّيها

14. Her tears would turn away the cheeks,
But passion makes them flow.

١٤. كانَتْ تهابُ الخُدودَ أَدْمعُه
لَكِنْ عَلَيْهَا الهَوى يُجرِّيها

15. A difficult love, which passion has shepherded,
Nothing has veiled it from her.

١٥. صَبٌّ رَعَى نَفْسَهُ الغرامُ فما
حَجَّبه دُونها تَنائِيهَا

16. Where the trappings of joy are lofty,
Taking him along, and the prime of youth guides it.

١٦. حَيْثُ نِياقُ السُّرورِ سَاريةٌ
بِهِ وَشَرْخُ الشبابِ حادِيها

17. And the eye roams wherever beauty has wandered,
Embracing it, while it embraces her.

١٧. وَأَطلقَ العَيْنَ حَيْثُما سَرَحَ ال
حُسْنُ فَيَحْويه وَهْوَ يَحْويها

18. And it has indulged in love from its passion for her,
Angering its innards, and pleasing her.

١٨. وَرَاحَ في الحُبِّ مِنْ تَعَشُّقها
يُسْخِطُ أَحْشاءَهُ وَيُرْضِيها

19. No branch shadows it, so it holds her back,
Or poverty challenges it, so it restrains her.

١٩. ما شابَ فَرْعٌ له فَيرْدَعُهَا
أَوْ شَانَ فَقْرٌ بِهِ فَيُثْنيها

20. And the soul, separation has not denied for it,
What nearness has affirmed of her hopes.

٢٠. وَالنَّفْسُ مَا كَذَّبَ البعادُ لها
ما صَدَّق القُرْبُ مِنْ أمانيها

21. So there is no estrangement to fear,
No, nor any harshness to endure.

٢١. فَلا هَجيرَ لِلْهَجْرِ يَحْذَرُهُ
كَلَّا وَلا قَسْوةً يُقاسِيها

22. Oh, what an era of sweetness has been distant,
Nights, if only he could bring it closer.

٢٢. فَيا لَهُ عَصْرُ لَذّةٍ بَعُدَتْ
مِنْهُ لَيالٍ لَوْ كَانَ يُدنِيهَا

23. So bid farewell to the people of the protected sanctuary,
And be content with your world, apart from its wishes.

٢٣. فَدَعْ وَداعاً لأَهْلِ دارِ حِمىً
وَاغْنَ بِدُنْياك عَنْ مَغَانِيهَا

24. And make it lawful with drafts of her delicious wine,
And make it pleasant with drafts of her cupbearer.

٢٤. واسْتَحْلِهَا مِنْ رِضَابِ سَائِغها
وَاسْتَجْلِهَا مِنْ رِضَابِ سَاقيها

25. For it is a wine like amber, if mixed,
It has brought its wonders to its drinker.

٢٥. فَهيَ مُدامٌ كالتِّبْرِ إِنْ مُزِجَتْ
أَتتْ بِآلائِها لآلِيها
