1. I stay up while my Lord is resting,
My heart is tortured by sorrows and thoughts,
١. لا أَسْهَرَ اللَّهُ طِرْفاً نَامَ عَنْ سَهَرِي
وَعَذَّب القَلْبَ بالأَشْجَانِ وَالفِكَرِ
2. While my home is watered with my tears,
His home is never watered except by rain.
٢. ولا سَقَى دَارَهُ يَوْماً إِذَا سُقِيَتْ
دَاري بِدَمْعي إلّا وابِلُ المَطَرِ
3. Oh people, my passion for the full moon-faced one
Has healed me, with his tender, delicate branch.
٣. يا قَوْمُ قَدْ شَفَّني وَجْدِي بِبَدْرِ دُجىً
عَلى قَضيبِ أراكٍ ناعمٍ نَضِرِ
4. He is a gazelle in human form, if not for the magic of his glances,
I would not spend my nights besotted, except by a sorcerer.
٤. ظَبْيٌ مِنَ الإِنْسِ لَوْلا سِحْر مُقْلَتِهِ
ما بِتُّ فيهِ بِلَيْلٍ غَيْرِ ذي سَحَرِ
5. In his eyebrows, eyes and speech,
There are traces of aloe wood, arrows and lute strings.
٥. في حَاجِبَيْهِ وعَيْنَيهِ وَمَنْطِقِهِ
شِبْهٌ مِنَ القِسي وَالأسْهامِ والوتَرِ
6. He is the meadow of beauty and the horizon of charm,
He combines the branch and the moon.
٦. رَوْضُ الجَمالِ وَأُفْقُ الحُسْنِ فَهْوَ لِذا
قَدْ راحَ يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الغُصْنِ والقَمَرِ
