1. The youth is not excused if he fails to become accustomed to separation,
Nor the lovers if they fail to become accustomed to abandonment.

١. لا عُذْرَ لِلصَّبِّ إنْ لَمْ يأْلَفِ التَّلَفا
وَلِلأَحِبَّةِ إِنْ لَمْ يأْلَفُوا الصَّلَفا

2. From where do I have a lineage of glory in their eyes,
That I would seek through it esteem in love or passion?

٢. مِنْ أَيْنَ لي نِسْبةٌ لِلعزِّ عِنْدَهُمُ
أَبْغي بِهَا شَرَفَاً فِي الحُبِّ أو شَغَفَا
