1. O Egypt's loyal and noble freemen, greetings
To you, and an everlasting covenant and bond

2. I left behind the prison where for you
Deeds were as numerous as the days gone by

3. Return as the Indian sword was burnished
With resolve, and honed again its edge

4. The foe asked you for ransom
But your lives and bodies were payment enough

5. The freedom of nations is no commodity
To be bought and sold by people

6. And had you agreed to pay for it with vigor
This vigor would have moved mountains

7. Your release acknowledges your opponent
Granted you right, not grace or favor

8. Obstinacy it was, now in you
Acquiescence and surrender on his part

9. Could he gain from you after bargaining
What he failed to gain before by force?

10. And it is excusable in matters of honor
If the free man spends his life in misery

11. Enough for the warrior if he sleeps while
His sins against his people lie with his foe

12. Can he deny the clear truth and claim
What no law or system allowed?

13. And forbid frank speech, deceiving,
Deeming all his hands wrought as illicit?

14. No pleaders interceded for you like
The oppressors, who censured and blamed

15. The secret of your deliverance your comrades
As though returned to their homelands to stay

16. As though the throngs had met and a reunion
Enfolded them, and the goal was achieved

17. Well deserved is Egypt’s reward for saving you
After praying and fasting for Egypt

18. A feast for it are Egypt’s banners in concord
And for others to come banners in turn

19. The purest aims and wants are those rendered pure
By blood, tears, and words

20. And when souls turn to their faith
Pains become joys for their own sake

21. A nation redeemed by the struggle of nobles
And well-aimed blows of heroes suffers no wrong

22. It apportioned duties among them, so matched
Were their burdens, even their shares

23. Some fruits your country has reaped already
But effort and resolve will lead to perfection

24. True is the right the heavens ordained for you
Not what cannon and sword ordained

25. Blessed the coming peace in its wake
A covenant as the protector willed and concord

26. Certainty of consent joined the two sides
And suspicions and resentments were dispelled
