1. I have brought to you in my right hand my book
Not for my family or myself what I want or need

2. I ask you in it for a cure, from your disease
And it has taken from you, no cure from my disease

3. You are stingy even with an answer though you
Are indebted to my soul and money

4. And this war between you has preoccupied you
With power at times, and benefits at others

5. Should ingratitude anger me, it's the least
My nights have yielded, if I count the nights

6. I protect my reproach in chastity and dignity
And where is one who hears my reproach

7. And on what day did one carrying a need
To anyone, generously give his soul

8. My life is but to reap what
I have planted of good, growing

9. I love that my worries are others' comfort
And not to see in other's worries, my comfort

10. If everyone who's gloomy would bear what
I have endured, I'd not find anyone to complain to

11. I see people, all people, in my place
And the valley entirely my place

12. I send whispers to every pulsing heart
Changing whatever it wishes, my state still the same

13. No land withered nor was its expanse narrowed
With a people, among whom were some of my thoughts

14. I called and their suspicions flew off
Interpreting that love and wish

15. They said, the foreigner wants entry
Yet the abode is but a side of what I built

16. I'm not hoping from my time for hands pleased
But I hope for the heart's contentment

17. What water won't settle his stomach
Meets the outstretched hand only to fold it back

18. Above what they suspected, whatever I wished, could I
Say, if only what's in my possession were mine

19. It's not my soul's right with an enemy I seek
But the people's welfare is my goal

20. The men of the nation are equal to me
My judgment between reformers impartial

21. In the air is a vow, I fear
What destinies drove those corruptions

22. Nor have I seen in peace or war, my nation
In any region, but a loyal ally
