1. Lord, this is my poetry and this is my rhetoric
Bearing witness to the soundness of my faith

2. I have an innate call before I came
Even if a book had guided me to certainty

3. Whoever established beliefs out of blind imitation
I have stood firm in reasoning

4. I lived as a Muslim, not for the Islam of my mother
And father and prince and sultan

5. If I had been brought up and settled
Amongst a people who worship idols

6. I would have found no religion worthier
Of adherence than the religion of Ahmad
