1. Welcome, poet of Persia and her man of letters,
Her minister, ambassador, and orator,

2. And he who honors the noble class with what
He inspired in it, strengthened it, and rewarded it.

3. Counselor of kingdoms in lenience and dew,
Their critic, overseer, and reckoner,

4. Descend upon a land whose prince has chosen you,
Extending to you its sweetness and fertility.

5. Kings' love for you proves
The fortune of rhymes to them and their share.

6. How many great nobles are in office?
Has anyone attained what you attained of titles?

7. What have you seen on the borders of footsteps?
With her trustee, did you inform or frighten her?

8. Settle the hearts of a gathering of yearners
The drums of enemies have taken their hearts away.

9. You wish your nation happiness and elevation
Through its king who works to refine it.

10. If there were with the two neighbors what we fear, you would not
Leave your country amidst the adversities of its misfortunes.

11. Do hostilities recur between them while you are in the
World a messenger of peace between its nations?

12. You attained intercession with every antagonist
And favored its victor over its defeated.

13. Indeed, he who purified his state from enemies
After they had united to torture it,

14. And who earns the affection of the distant house
Has not lost the friendship of its neighbor or relative.
