1. I was alarmed by the discord among the people for a while
I called out to them but found no response

2. How often did I make them equal with my advice
Yet neither the content nor the angry were swayed

3. And I met no fault from a group
Except that I sincerely reproached them

4. And my death in battle for them is better
For Egypt, than living in melancholy

5. And I gathered them after separation
With the love of Egypt they embraced companions

6. And the joining of the two councils for every whisper
The elders of the nation in rows and the youth

7. And the one I appointed from them to rule
Became the holder of the reins of government by my designation

8. And they came with a letter, an ambassador of a covenant
And they enumerated between them that account

9. And their action with me was to fulfill
The right of the kingdom, recognizing what is right

10. And if reward is due tomorrow for the likes of me
My reward was reuniting them

11. They repel the aggressors from their protector
While torment has descended upon others

12. And doomsday has already begun in its course
The terror and turmoil of the tyrants of war

13. So we see nothing but destruction in its flooding
And nothing but inferno in its clouds

14. And I do not know if they have monopolized
Sustenance out of tyranny, or to possess the slaves

15. And I do not know for whom among them
Are its pathways, if it returns to ruin

16. And there may come a time upon man
When he finds neither food nor drink
