1. My excuse from this life is a generous friend I called upon
He answered my prayers and granted my hopes

2. If he continues to bestow favors on me, his joy
In granting me favors will equal my joy in receiving them

3. And if he refuses so I may repay his many kind deeds
He will see it as a debt upon me, for which I praise him

4. So for his sake, whose long life continues in goodness
The finest reward for his ongoing charity is to release me from obligation
