1. O people of Egypt, enough of your sorrow
I return to you the unity that was broken

2. The eras have passed but your negligence remains
What I feared from you has happened

3. What almost strayed from your past ways
And lingered greedily within you

4. Can one who forgot to guard his home
Misguided and ailing, complaining of pain?

5. You sought the highest goal but its consequence
Is that you part or return as factions

6. Why doesn’t your politics guide you rightly
Like it guided individuals and the masses?

7. Whenever one of you rises capably
You flock around him, alarmed

8. Whenever one you trust aspires to rule
You spread doubts and protest vehemently

9. Do ministers serve the opponent or you?
Who did it harm one day and who did it benefit?

10. Your intentions and excess zeal do not equate
Not everyone lured by it interceded

11. Make a covenant with God and wait
Perhaps he is better than the pious and devout

12. Don’t his past days hold lessons
That others saw and heard?

13. He is content with ruling you by compulsion
Not by pasture and respite out of consent

14. The one whose counsel his nation followed
Should not have slanderers trail him

15. You have a spy on his conscience
If you do not find him forthcoming and transparent

16. The opponent lies in wait as his schemes spread
After what you snatched away with certainty

17. Will you leave the matter to the rebel to steer
However he wants, a tradition and law?

18. His softness and firmness in it are equal
As are those who challenged and yielded to him

19. The dispute over the king’s guardians dragged on
Did a decisive arbiter emerge after it widened?

20. Its costly sacrifices were squandered meaninglessly
And the precious price you paid was lost

21. Relinquish your right to that opponent altogether
Or fight him united, O Egypt’s factions

22. What can the powerless duped man do when confronting
Armor and steel fully dressed?

23. Your faith and conviction are your weapons today
Did you ever see a tyrant bow in humility?

24. Does the Nile seek a man from you to water his crops
When he owns no field he planted?

25. Take security in this world for yourselves
Before you ask it for prosperity and contentment

26. Cooperate and prepare the tools for the matter
How much did resolve facilitate a difficult task?

27. Tarnished honor will not satisfy the high-minded
Even if content with a life of hardship

28. Where is the one who returns your exile
To the Nile valley, comforting the ardent lover?

29. And where is the one who makes blessings for his nation
While the throne is not ashamed of what he did?

30. I heard a preacher promise you
A debt which perhaps pleases by his call and effort

31. If the totality of your agreement is not attained
You have between your consciences those who equated and united

32. You will be embarrassed if his advice prevails
And your opponent rules you after deceiving you
