Yet I saw not from you what my stature deserved.

5. Did you see excellence in me or excess love?
It is but my nature and passion.

6. I regret not what has passed me by,
Even if in it was my rank and medal.

7. I reproach you with the reproach of contentment,
Hoping my reproach will benefit and advise.

8. I had hoped to stand before you,
As you are the apple of my eye before me.
