١. أترضى يا كروبُ بأن تسمَّى
عميد القوم في فن الدمارِ

2. And be angered by the accusation in theaters
Of innate evil that brought you disgrace?

٢. ويغضبك اتهامُك في الملاهي
ببغيٍ مورثٍ لك شرَّ عار

3. You fell victim to pens that weep for you,
With cannons filling the land in your defense,

٣. ذهبت ضحية الأقلام تبكي
عليك مدافعٌ ملء الديار

4. And it was decreed that the book of a narrator
Would be harsher on you than sword and fire.

٤. وقُدِّرَ أن يكون كتاب راوٍ
أشد عليك من سيف ونار

5. Yet the world's prevention of you only led
To lessons learned and wisdom gained.

٥. فما بلغ الورى منعاك إلا
وباتوا في اتعاظ واعتبار

6. So take pride, o state of the noble pen,
For today you are most deserving of pride.

٦. فخاراً دولة القلم المفدى
فأنت اليوم أولى بالفخار
