يقولون مات الشاعران ولم تنح

1. They say the two poets died, yet grief did not depart,
And the people of the two horizons mourned for them.

١. يقولون مات الشاعران ولم تَنُحْ
وقد ناح أهل المشرقين عليهما

2. The two assemblies did not let me attend their place,
Though I am the richest of friends without their invitation.

٢. ولم يدعني الجمعان في موعديهما
وإني لأغنى الصحب عن دعوتيهما

3. If the two friends left the world suddenly,
They took from its goodness their share.

٣. لئن فارق الدنيا الصديقان بغتةً
فقد أخذا من خيرها حصَّتيهما

4. What they entrusted as their fate enriched them
And what they entrusted as their passion made them precious.

٤. وأغناهما ما استودعا قيضتيهما
وأغلاهما ما استودعا مهجتيهما

5. They attained from honor in their funeral
Its extent as they attained it in their heyday.

٥. ونالا من الإجلال في مأتميهما
مداه كما نالاه في موسميهما

6. I have tears that I seek to heal their pain with
When those who carry me to them are late.

٦. ليَ الدمع أستشفي به في نواهما
إذا أبطأت بي حاملاتي إليهما

7. I wish my death had preceded
So I would not witness the death of the two friends.

٧. وكان بودي لو تقدم مصرعي
فلا أشهد الندين في مصرعيهما

8. I fulfilled the pact of the living and the dead, and worries
Of the two sides became equal before me.

٨. وفيت بعهد الحي والميت واستوت
أمامي هموم الجانبين كليهما
