Flashed brightly in battle's tumultuous day,

2. On the plain of Qaran or Rabya's steep,
In the glorious wars of olden day;

3. When Ali Ibn Fadhl led his mail-clad bands,
Like lions gleaming through the dark array,

4. And woke the memory of deeds we wrought,
When routed squadrons fled in wild dismay;

5. Should foemen seek us, ready we await,
With watchful eyes and weapons sharp as they.
