1. Have you not seen the son of Abi Kharzah
Claiming to love Ujab as he alleges
١. أَلَم تَرَ في اِبنِ أَبي خَرزَةٍ
يُحِبُّ عُجاباً كَما قَد زَعَم
2. Yet he has nothing to show of his love
Except to caress you or have a wet dream
٢. وَلَيسَ بِكَفَّيهِ مِن حُبِّها
سِوى أَن يُدَلِّكَ أَو يَحتَلِم
3. When he sleeps drunk with love for her
And wakes up famished and starved
٣. إِذا باتَ سَكرانَ مِن حُبِّها
وَأَصبَحَ مِن جوعِهِ مُتَّخِم
4. What a bankrupt lover you are, my friend
A rich man in pretense and fantasy
٤. فَيا لَكَ مِن عاشِقٍ مُفلِسٍ
أَخي صَبوَةٍ موسِرٍ مِن عَدَم
5. I told him he visited her one night
That would make a donkey bleed from lust
٥. وَنُبِّئتُهُ زارَها لِيلَةً
تُبيلُ الحِمارَ مِنَ القُرِّ دَم
6. He had but one shirt to his name
That would tell you tales of nations
٦. عَلَيهِ قَميصٌ لَهُ واحِدٌ
يَقُصُّ عَلَيكَ حَديثَ الأُمَم
7. So she sang and he gave her his shirt
And was left naked like one bathing
٧. فَغَنَّت فَآثَرَها بِالقَميصِ
وَغودِرِ عُريانَ كَالمُستَحِم
8. He sang on as the north wind struck him
And was left shattered by its cold
٨. وَغَنّى وَقَد ضَرَبَتهُ الشَمالُ
وَأَصبَحَ مِن بَردِها قَد صُدِم
9. You have taken away my health
And caused my body prolonged sickness
٩. أَخَذتِ بُرَيدي فَاِعرَيتَني
وَأَورَثتِ جِسمِيَ طولَ السَقم
