طيلسان لابن حرب جاءني

1. A letter from Ibn Harb's son has reached me
Torn to pieces, barely holding together

١. طَيلَسانٌ لِاِبنِ حَربٍ جاءَني
قَد قَضى التَمزيقُ مِنهُ وَطَرَه

2. I fear for him always
A Samaritan, not wary of danger

٢. أَنا مِن خَوفٍ عَلَيهِ أَبَداً
سامِرِيٌّ لَيسَ يَألو حَذَرَه

3. O Ibn Harb's son, take it or send what
We can buy a yellow bull for ten

٣. يا اِبنَ حَربٍ خُذهُ أَو فَاِبعَث بِما
نَشتَري عِجلاً بِصِفرٍ عَشَرَه

4. Perhaps God will revive it for us
If we strike it with one of the cows

٤. فَلَعَلَّ اللَهَ يُحييهِ لَنا
إِن ضَرَبناهُ بِبَعضِ البَقَرَه

5. For it has known Noah, and perhaps
It possesses some of Noah's knowledge

٥. فَهوَ قَد أَدرَكَ نوحاً فَعَسى
عِندَهُ مِن عِلمِ نوحٍ خَبَرَه

6. It will always read whoever sees it
Even when we are bones turned to dust

٦. أَبَداً يَقرَأُ مَن أَبصَرَه
أَإِذا كُنّا عِظاماً نَخِرَه
