1. Your eyes have become sleepless, and their torment has returned to you.
I recalled one of your nights when you were sleepless while its guardian slept.

2. The eye did not taste the sweetness of slumber until its eyelids grew pale.
The mourners of Abi Qasim arose, so their flowing tears poured down.

3. The eyes rightly weep for the son of Al-Ashajj continuously with no respite,
Their eyelashes shedding tears for him without end.

4. When you were laid to rest, Muhammad, the lands and the trees wept for you.
Whenever you are remembered, they cry. A pledge betrayed by a neighbor,

5. A night of winter with no comforts of wealth where even dogs do not bark except for the desert grouse,
Neither clothes nor furs provide warmth. But you, Muhammad, give warmth to the naked.

6. Your eye sockets remain open as the fat runs from them.
When the cooking pot boils, even your silent ones speak.

7. O granter of the morning’s radiance when the spears and swords glint!
O granter of the smooth cheek, which may entrance a row of poets!

8. O granter of the maidens’ antiphonal singing inpythonanywherees!
You were like the Tigris hurling its currents into the sea.

9. You were solid ice when it was sought to pass over you.
When a town clanged the bells of war, you would send the keen-eyed against it until its news reached you.

10. By the permission of He who assembled the cavalry for that in their training ground
And who feeds the horses oats through you until their snorts are made harmonious.

11. The Pictish archer knows you break the forelocks (of horses).
Oh, what a day when the tribes failed you and your horsemen fled,

12. While the horses returned vanquished, stumbling, their hindquarters lashed!
On the shore of brackish Lake Lusmagh and your loyal servants and candle-lighters gathered around you.

13. You risked yourself for their sake, attaining horrible adversity!
Do not distance yourself from Abi Qasim! A soul can reach its limit.

14. Events have destroyed our masters. Nights go on and repeat themselves.
