1. Alas! Whoever has an undying soul
Will be relieved of misery
١. أَلا مَن لِنَفسٍ لا تَموتُ فَيَنقَضي ال
عَناءُ وَلا تَحيا حَياةً لَها طَعمُ
2. And does not live a flavorless life
Shall I abandon visiting the beloved out of gloom?
٢. أَأَترُكُ إِتيانَ الحَبيبِ تَأَتُّماً
أَلا إِنَّ هِجرانَ الحَبيبِ هُوَ الإِثمُ
3. Nay! Avoiding the beloved is a sin
So suffer her abandonment, for you claimed
٣. فَذِق هَجرَها قَد كُنتَ تَزعَمُ أَنَّهُ
رَشادٌ أَلا يا رُبَّما كُذِّبَ الزَعمُ
