1. The days of my youth and playfulness have passed away
Though in memory I remain close from afar

2. A grieving farewell from one who misses you
Yearning we may meet again though hopes are bleak

3. Farewells were warm then left with excuse
Sorrow doubled in heart of one staying and one leaving

4. Then came the age of gray hair after his farewell
Trusting life brings no lasting joy

5. Gladness of spirit turned to sorrowful regret
And peer friendship to companionship no more

6. What we disliked has settled in and remained
And undermined what we loved till distant it became

7. Would that my youth were here in my old age
Would that my old age were there in my youth

8. They said make up for youth with companionship
An age may come you find companionship sweet

9. I said to them mocking myself for not hiding
What to all is obvious and plain to see
