1. O you whom I hope for and await your pardon
Though my sins against you are great

2. My sacrifice for you is what my eyelids contain, for in losing you
There is weeping and lamenting

For what the slanderers have said

Whose proofs are like the ever-present sun?

6. And forget you, the full moon, after blessings
The stars remind me how you used to shine on me

7. How you granted me openly your virtues
So that tongues proclaim them in both worlds

8. Are you not the one whose river of glory
And wealth has always been sanctified and allotted to me?

9. My affairs have always succeeded after yours
As if I were a close relative and your equal

10. With you, if I intend to stay, my abode is peaceful
While with all other benefactors, I remain a stranger

11. You have healed the scars of enemies with your mighty hand
To this day, the scars remain in hearts

12. You brought good near me though it was distant
And distanced harm though it was near

13. Whenever fate soured the lives of others
Through you my life was sweetened

14. It is you whose affection I have tasted
As the possessor of glory roared and yelped

15. It remains pure of any fault, had it not been for slander
That has wounded it with mortal injury

16. Is it lawful in your love’s law that you
Believe a slanderer’s lies about me?

17. And forget my pacts, though you know well
My faithfulness - how strange indeed!

18. If my sin is that when my hand grew full
From your blessings, you came to my aid

19. And revived me, and lifted me up
Until, by your majesty, I rode above the clouds

20. And your generosity exceeds me for eternity
Then that is a sin from which I will never repent

21. I am the sincere, loving friend whose loyalty
Is the same, whether seen or unseen

22. Knowledgeable in how to purify honor, vigilant
A trusted guardian over it, watchful critic

23. I have lived my youth since I lived your companionship
And neither has a beloved except me

24. If a young man suffers what I have suffered
From separation, his whitening hair is excused
