For its lightning, clouds and rains a downpour

12. He made the lands of the polytheists for his troops
Lands where they have neither war nor truce

13. And they feared him until no day in which they live for them
Dawns, a shepherd whose day they spoiled with pasturing

14. Valiant, devotion to God his trait
Alongside victory, mighty aid, and openings

15. When he joins heroes on the day of battle
No sword or spear avails them against him

16. A youth who if men grew weary of a cause
It sufficed him, his brilliance providing

17. Nor does earnestness show in him discomposure
As sincerity does not negate his jest in speech

18. He whose forgiveness does not own anger unleashed
And owns it unleashed with pardon and clemency

19. When did time smile on one like him
Except it betrayed with perfidy one like him

20. Tearless, my eyes are dry, my tears dried up
So no outpouring can heal with weeping or pour

21. And I knew not the taste of water since his loss
So every freshwater in my mouth after him is salt

22. When sincere advice came to me and I was told
Console yourself with what you've been given, the advice seemed to mock

23. Dear to one like me, when his hair
Became my mirror, though praise had lapsed

24. Had I lived expounding his merit
A life like his, the exposition would not exhaust

25. Lofty above the world, so neither life
Of its sons is fair, nor its foulness foul

26. It harms though it may profit on occasion
