May Allah bless a life we enjoy,

رعى الله عيشاً نعمنا به

1. May Allah bless a life we enjoy,
Filled with ease as worries pass by unnoticed,

١. رعى الله عيشاً نِعمنا به
ملَياً وصرف النوى غافل

2. With safety guaranteed and no distress,
A hoped-for union with no distraction,

٢. أمانٍ تُقضّى ولا غُصَّة
ووصل يُرَجّى ولا شاغل

3. We rise above people in what we say,
And all listen receptively,

٣. ونعلو على الناس فيما نقول
وكلٌ له سامعٌ قابل

4. We were not ignorant of the whims of fate,
That the one who stays will depart,

٤. ولم نكُ نجهل ريبَ الزمان
وأنَّ المقيمَ به راحل

5. The best I was tempted by,
Was the union of a youth whose goodness was ever-present,

٥. وأحسنُ ما كنت مغرىّ به
وصالُ فتىً خيرُهُ واصل

6. But when he went away, misfortunes weighed heavy on me,
For one whose worth mixed with life lies dormant,

٦. فلما نأى أخملتني الخطوبُ
لمُن قَدرُه بالحيا خامل

7. I wondered where Yahya was, but he did not live for me,
Without you, one of stature yet unable to attain,

٧. بعدت أين يحى فلم يحى لي
لبُعدك جاهٌ ولا نائل

8. I had hoped you would be a reserve for me,
With your all-encompassing grace to envelop me,

٨. وكنتُ ذخرتُك لي عدَّةً
ليشملني فضلك الشامل

9. And said if I die, he is the guardian,
For those I leave behind and their provider,

٩. وقلت إذا مُتُ فهو الوصيُّ
على مَن أخلِّفُ والكافل

10. So how could I strategize when without what,
I had hoped for, a determining fate intervened,

١٠. فكيف احتيالي ومن دون ما
ترجَّيتُه قدَرٌ حائل

11. Oh you, the wise judge of judges,
With enduring benevolence that towers,

١١. فيا أيها الصدرُ قاضي القضاة
ومن طَول إحسانه طائل

12. Be content with the elevation you have attained,
Its eternal bliss trails behind it,

١٢. تملَّ بما حُزتَ من رفعةٍ
نعيمُكَ في ذيلها رافل

13. The leader of all creation has loved you for it,
And completed it with his perfect generosity,

١٣. حباك إمامُ البرايا بها
وكمَّلها جودُه الكامل

14. A resolute, generous, pleased leader,
Noble, worldly and just ruler,

١٤. إمامٌ هُمامُ جوادٌ رضيّ
كريمُ النَّثا عالمٌ عامل

15. Who governs the people and revives the lands,
His fair policies have authority,

١٥. يسوس العبادَ ويُحيي البلادَ
حكمُ سياسته العادل

16. With powers that subdue lofty minds,
And the mighty lion intimidates them,

١٦. له سطوات يُذبنَ الصَّفا
ويرهبها الأسدُ الباسل

17. A hand, if it is open-handed with gifts,
The pouring rain is humbled by it,

١٧. وكفٌ إذا هطلت باللُّهى
تضاءل منها الحيا الهاطل

18. May his rule last and his state endure,
Raging with its overpowering majesty,

١٨. فدامَ ودامت له دولةٌ
يصول بعزِّتها الدائل

19. Kings of the age inherit it one after another,
And the aspirant hopes for its surplus,

١٩. تُوايل منها ملوكُ الزمانِ
ويرجو نوافلها الآمل
