1. For one whose youth poured treaties as sapling trees,
The hand of time transformed it to something different.

2. Remembering his singing stirred passion in me,
When the north wind blew from over there.

3. O breeze, bring us the scent of his locks,
And news of his long nights, and prolong them.

4. The memory of him is a playground for souls,
Sorrow permeated hearts and wandered.

5. The doves of protectiveness sang, so to God praise;
How many lovers has it made shed tears that poured.

6. By my father, his eyes with the most beautiful glance,
His passion deposited arrows in the lover’s heart.

7. Babylonian of gaze, his eyelids blow,
Into the heart of the confidant, lawful magic.

8. The full moon of splendor and my heart herding it,
While my eyes in the horizon herd ideals.

9. My body felt distress so it consulted its mirror,
Above the mirror of his cheek, the heart felt empty.

10. If only whatever was with the beloved were against his enemies,
For he made my excuse more spacious.

11. And by my life, not all that one wishes for,
Is destined for an optimist to attain.

12. O shepherd of God, the promise of intimacy we called him to,
To pay the debt of bliss, so he readily complied.

How often we were alone under a full moon we made brilliant,

14. And he fulfilled the good deed of connection.
He went seeking a cup, cheering its pourer,

15. And its pourer he covered in beauty.
So it narrated to the eyes the splendor of his features,

16. A moon that deposited the suns as crescent.
And lightning narrated to me the story of his shoulders,

17. And rain narrated to me my pouring tears.
Is it a sprouting branch or the one I love leaning?

18. The hand of breeze swayed it and it tilted.
A gazelle got lost with a heart as its dwelling,

19. Do you see it lost its way or alluring?
If only I knew who with enmity misguided him from me,

20. Was it an injustice that befell me and deprived me of union?
Or did my excuse by leaving my affection tempt him?

21. May God send chastisement to the blamer.
My hearing is tired of blame and exhaustion wears it out,

22. The guilt of gossips, saying and telling.
Rebuke my tormentor - God judge him,

23. How my fervor increases with increased burning.
If he tastes what my mouth held of blame,

24. Without having blamed me or complained of burdens.
O companion, enjoy life’s ease,

25. Then go back to the spring of joy as fresh.
And seize the opportunity of time and make it pleasant.

26. A day of intimacy, untroubled, so good and long.
Shout at one whose concern is multiplication of his worldly goods,

27. Its concerns only increased him in sins and contempt.
So be moderate and rely on God’s generosity,

28. And suffice yourself in creation by trusting in Him.
And make patience an intimate confidant of your heart,

29. For the nights are pregnant from the passage of time.
For how long will you blame time and quarrel with it?

30. And to what extent do you condemn its actions?
You have already attained in the protectiveness of honor and glory,

31. From the open space of the trusted leader, a green and plentiful life.
The prince whose ancestry branched and towered,

32. And over the lowly it extended shade.
It is said “a sea” so I said “its meaning is Lebanon”,

33. How wondrous that seas are higher than mountains.
His benevolence covered the people and his beauty,

34. May we never lack from tasting his bliss.
Do you think when Adam died did He advise

35. His children to spend wealth?
Bounty whose sea of gifts has overflowed,

36. And it sent pouring rain.
And generosity - if it knew its meaning,

37. It would seek permission from it humbly.
Noble traits it dispersed - if only you saw

38. The dispersal of the north wind’s scent, the sick would heal.
Traits among people God ennobled,

39. So it excelled in highness and its merits were purified.
And prevented from anything besides praise, forbidding it,

40. Like this, like this, and not otherwise, no no.
So he is the full moon in the abode of its highness,

41. May God increase him in ascendance and perfection.
A lion subduing lions which it frightens,

42. With might and the times announce celebration.
A sanctuary - so whoever it was his aspiration,

43. And by its call he dismounted his ride.
Whoever at his door tied his steed,

44. Attained over what one hopes for wealth.
Nobility envied by the stars his qualities,

45. So over all others, it disabled attainment.
If we wanted to count the virtues of his traits,

46. Either our imaging the impossible would be impossible,
Or we kept time to thank his blessings,

47. Gratitude runs out for successive blessings.
Or we saw praise reciprocating his reward,

48. We would not possess anything but the mind from it.
Only supplication admitting his ascendance,

49. Pleading and beseeching is loyal.
The confused one marvels when meeting him,

50. By a praise through which he rose and prolonged.
A wonder when we praise the generous one,

51. And we spontaneously string the stars for him in verse.
Every couplet to him the most eloquent composition guides it,

52. Littérateurs dependant on him were his family.
O you who we have oriented towards whom we named,

53. So he showed us the future condition of mankind.
You are the crown of ascendance and Kisra the son of Dara,

54. We have not exaggerated in this instance saying.
But it is a name and you are the essence it names,

55. And the named is the essence of its name, no doubt.
If it were an essence then you would be its material,

56. Or other than that, you would be the totality.
So it is a noble word meaning your self,

57. What else could it be said for?
God distinguished you with what you accept,
