1. Whether your glory was new or long-standing
You have clothed it with new nobility

2. You inherited glory then built glory
By which enduring glory became erected

3. If you boast, you have reason for boasting
Above the world, being peerless in it

4. The nobles boast of nothing
Except what they gained themselves, even if their ancestors were glorious

5. The forest lion does not wander vainly in pride
Over its peers, unless it hunts prey

6. I see the highest ranks beautiful in splendor
And sublime wherever you were their pillar

7. Like the graceful gazelles, more beautiful
When necklaces of pearls adorn them

8. It suffices you, O guardian of glory, the forbearance
By which you possessed our loyal servants

9. If you possessed the world, it would be no wonder
For you have expanded it generously and magnanimously

10. I have praised you as much as my praise allows
For every unique, graceful quality

11. What more can the praise of one like me avail you
One whose nature is praiseworthy?

12. So pardon me if my incapacity is exposed
And if I praise your highness, it can add no more

13. But the house of your glory is a house of praise
Whenever we compose poetry in it

14. You are too great for someone not important
To disparage, if he was once dear to you

15. If you were once the people's holiday
Then no wonder you turn out to be the fortunate one
