1. Like roots uncovered he appeared,
With a radiant smile.

2. He outshone the moons when he emerged,
My full moon and life.

3. He puts the branches to shame as he sways,
He has leaned away from me,

4. And tears from my eyes flow like a stream,
Pouring down from me.

5. My body grew frail and woe is me,
Enough! I swear by me

6. I have not come, by God I swear,
With anything flimsy.

7. How my innards were shaken, oh to the cupbearer!
The knots fluttered,

8. And legs intertwining legs
Beneath the robes.

9. My intense longing undid
The fastening of knots,

10. And my sipping of his sweet saliva
Sipping the fever.

11. Oh bearers of spirits, how sweet
Is this fermented drink,

12. The tavern revealed to me
While my heart is sober.

13. I do not complain of a beauty’s disdain,
Though it tortured me.

14. All who complain of love are shunned,
Shunned completely.

15. I came in confusion and wonder,
Of flowing robe,

16. Since the veil's guardian disappeared,
Dawn’s sun rose.

17. How can nearness not be sweet
When barriers vanish,

18. And the brilliant, snowy forehead
Tells of passion.

19. Oh roe deer of Najd’s sands,
You are my wish.

20. What patience availed
When you have seized my heart?

So have mercy on the suffering lover,

22. Regard my love,
And show kindness, for merit disdained

23. Is unseemly from you.
And blessings of God upon the Guide,

24. Full moon of glories,
Through whom I gained might and joy

25. In every state.
And upon the friend, pride of the assembly,

26. And the best of kin.
My pillars on Resurrection Day,

27. As long as I live,
Namely the second of two, treasure of gifts,

28. And likewise the eminent Farouk,
And Uthman of the two lights,

29. Radiant in traits.
And the impassioned Hammam, Haydar,

30. I mean Ali.
