1. Without your coquetry, without your alluring glance,
My sorrow for you would not persist between despair and hope.
١. لَولا العذار وَلَولا طَرفك الساجي
ما باتَ مُضناك بَينَ اليائس الراجي
2. O epitome of beauty, pillar of demolished patience,
The right hand of passion in you is paralyzed as pilgrims.
٢. يا كَعبة الحُسن رُكن الصَبر مُنهَدم
شُلّت يَمين عذول فيك حجّاجِ
3. You have imprisoned my soul in the jail of distance from you, so is there
Gain in a situation other than release?
٣. حَبست روحي بِسجن البُعد عَنك فَهَل
هَذا مَتاع لِحَولٍ غَير إِخراجِ
4. How much do I suffer from the issues of burning agony and sorrow.
If only they were productive because of you.
٤. كَم ذا أُعاني قَضايا لَوعَةٍ وَضَنى
فَلَيتَها مِنكَ كانَت ذات إِنتاجِ
5. If this is the consent of my Master, I have succeeded in it,
Like the success of a drowning man with rising waves.
٥. إِن كانَ هَذا رضا مَولاي فُزت بِهِ
فَوز الغَريق مَع اِستعلاء أَمواجِ
6. So, O you who have no need for rhetorical embellishment, be gentle
With a lover who desperately needs to meet you.
٦. فَيا غَنيّاً عَن المَعنى البَديع ألا
رِفقاً بِصبٍّ إِلى لُقياك مُحتاجِ
7. You are a pearl in the necklace of beauty, rather the pearl in the crown
Adorning your essence, not just a pearl in a necklace.
٧. فَأَنتَ دُرّة عقد الحسن في شَرف
يَزين مَعناك لا بَل دُرّة التاجِ
8. I am infatuated with the charming words of Persian poetry
That show you the actions of a skillful glassblower.
٨. أَهواه نَحويّ لَفظٍ فارِسيّ حلى
يريك حاجبه أَفعال زجّاجِ
9. I have followed the path of passionate love for you,
Can someone on this path have a guide?
٩. سَلَكتُ في حُبّه مِنهاج ذي وَلَهٍ
وَهَل لِسالك ذا المِنهاج مِن هاجي
10. I sacrifice the agony of my heart, though a secretive lover,
A lover of passion, but not one who achieves his desires.
١٠. فدىً لآس عذاريه فؤاد شجٍ
ناجي الغَرام وَلَكن لَيسَ بِالناجي
11. They said his love was impossible, for the full moon in its splendor
Had appeared to them while still crescent.
١١. قالوا تَعذّر فاِسلو عَن هَواه وَقَد
بَدا لَهُم مِنهُ بَدر التمّ في داجي
12. Yes, it is the night, except that its darkness

١٢. نعم هُوَ اللَيل إِلّا أنَّ ظُلمته
ضاءت بِنور سِراج مِنهُ وَهّاجِ

١٣. فَقيل في سندس خضرٍ نَرى قَمَرا
وَرُبّما قيل في إِكليل دِيباجِ
14. And I have said since gaining experience in his chronicles,
A line of musk on a page of ivory.
١٤. وَقُلت مُذ نِلت مِن تاريخه أَرباً
