1. He whose love did not reach the one he desired
With tears flowing down his cheeks

2. Passionately in love, anguished by yearning
Longing for tranquility, but it overpowers him

3. Hardships have burdened him with suffering
He remains sleepless through the nights

4. Alas, my heart remains captive
While the gazelle freely roams away from it

5. A slender gazelle who has torn my soul
Charming all hearts who gaze upon it

6. With smooth, radiant cheeks
Free from any blemish near it

7. I have refrained from whomsoever lacks modesty
Until I can be wary of him

8. And lips like a brimming cup
Does he perhaps exchange glances with it?

9. Beyond what I hope for from him
The trustworthy protector of glory

10. When I recite poetry to him
I list his outstanding merits

11. How much love we have bestowed
The first fruits of which his benevolence yielded

12. Every beautiful meaning he attained
When his triumphs had faded

13. He is a rain of righteousness if we go astray
His firm resolve manifesting mightily

14. Neither does he attack nor encounter
Victorious in all that he undertakes
