Of the days when I was called graceful and handsome,

If it can cure an ailing sick one.

When I was reveling in the shades of bliss.

4. They appeared and so patience vanished,
My tears now flowing and my sorrow settled.

5. The jealous spoke ill of love’s matter,
Though its ties were recent they maligned it.

6. Indulging in passion in the bliss of youth,
While its lovers in agonizing torment.

The eye grazes from it in a garden,

8. While the heart—from its aloofness—is in hell.
When its down appears in his poetry,

9. Like the morning sun in the wings of a gloomy night.
I herded for it the era, and how many a night

10. Did I pass, from recalling it, the cup of the boon companion.
Would that only his image had visited me

11. From some of the people of solitude.
A blamer blamed me for loving him

12. Ignorant of the people of love—and he is painful.
He intends betrayal from me regarding him, but

13. The reins of my commitment to love are not defiled.
Deaf is the echo of the berater in loving one

14. I have lodged from my innermost being in the core.
Would that I knew! Does he who possesses me

15. And whom I have become enamored with and surrendered my heart to,
Know that I have become, because of him, a poet

16. Who composes in his name every string of pearls?
But I am not—though it was thought of me—

17. A poet wandering in every valley.

18. A breeze that blew to us gently,
How excellent is the blowing of that breeze!

19. It passed by the sides of a maiden in seclusion
So it diffused its sides with scent.

20. Relating to me the discourse of love
Reported from Rama and that chaste Riym.

21. By God, tell O breeze of youth!
