1. I wept in anguish, had my weeping turned away your fate,
And I cried in agony, had a cry of pain relieved your plight.

2. I struggle with passion, though passion prevails,
And my patience failed, for it was ever so frail.

3. What solace is left, when fate wrecks one’s peace?
Comfort is naught, as time’s cruelty never shall cease.

4. For you, God’s blessing from favors He did endow,
As the eye of fate glanced kindly towards you.

5. And glory’s acme in lofty deeds, and the draft
Of honor, which misfortunes have to naughtness raft.

6. And the sun of renown in graces shining bright,
Whose days for your glory did in splendor light.

7. And the veiled beauty in loftiest of traits,
O’er which glory extends its protective gates.

8. We grieve, though grief helps naught, and yet
Grief’s bitter cup my lips cannot forget.

9. My sister, if in the grave you are confined,
Then know my heart is to sorrow inclined.

10. More pains for you my heart amass,
But love’s pangs, or grief, I cannot surpass.

11. If my heart concealed in pretext its woe,
Now for you unveiled, it allows grief to flow.

12. I suffer an anguish which patience betrayed,
So here am I, lost in its dismal shade.

13. I passed the night in desolation’s chains,
As by my side kindled sorrow’s flames.

14. I flail ‘twixt hope and despair on the sand,
And tears from my eyes by your memory fanned.

15. Had you heard my sighs, you would understand
My truth in grief, be it manifest or banned.

16. How many tears that the eyes won’t shun,
Whose surge, as I slept, made their injury run.

17. How many moans that patience concealed,
Yet sorrow on its heels swiftly wheeled.

18. Such is time, whose seasons never stand still,
No sooner one passes, than comes at its will

19. Another one. Varied sorrows beset me,
I’m fated, each era, fresh grief to see.

20. Is there a year when some loved one’s not lost?
Replaced by new grief for one I still grieve and cost.

21. To God I complain of the blows I sustains
From time’s endless seasons of unbearable pains.

22. Thus is the fate of time o’er mortals to trod,
How many tears spilled, how many joys robbed!

23. How many it brought down from glory’s towering crest,
As heights it had scaled became its bequest.

24. When resolved, it shook one in power invested,
When asked a favor, inclined to one distressed.

25. It pitched its tents heedless of one’s high station,
Consigned him to pits, and connived in privation.

26. It cared not, when bared of all armor and steed
A swimmer, deprived of all garb he may need.

27. How many a sanctuary of might it tore down,
Which riches aspired in its glory to drown!

28. It mounted attacks with fully equipped cavalry,
Sable, chestnut, and roan horses prancery.

29. Yet it was not daunted by these troops so immense,
It feared no protector, had deference to no defense.

30. But alas! Grief left me in pain distraught.
Sorrow insisted I shed copious tears,

31. Which I cannot restrain, how much I fear.
O her grave! Still the noblest of all that were dug,

32. To which breeze hems cling, their edges to tug.
God’s blessing you keep, that shall never depart,

33. Drawing you closer to the home of her heart.
I do not implore you to rain tears on this place,

34. Since my eyes stream plenty, heedless of chase.
I shall come to you, if tears I do not impart,

35. To offer the blood of my breaking heart.
