لولا ازديارك في الكرى وهنا

1. Had you not spurned affection in this abode
The wild deer would come to drink from your hand

١. لَولا اِزديارُكِ في الكَرى وَهنا
كانَ السهادُ لطرفِه أَهنا

2. One more gentle than you would have visited him
Had not the dawn kept him from coming again

٢. أَلَطيفُ كانَ أَرقَّ منك له
لَولا الصَباحُ لزارَه مَثنى

3. If you forbid him from visiting while awake
You have allowed union with him in dreams

٣. إِن تمنعي يَقظى زيارتَه
فَلَقَد أَبحتِ وصالَه وَسنى

4. O doe grazing the slopes burdened with sorrow
Yearning for the meadows and bowing with grief

٤. يا ظبيةً بالسَفح راتعةً
تَشتو الغضا وتربَّعُ الحزَنا

5. If your love spurns me then passion is ephemeral
Or if your abode rejects me then desire is transient

٥. إن ينأَ حيُّك فالهَوى أمَمٌ
أَو تَقصَ دارُك فالحَشى مَغنى

6. Never before our parting did I imagine
My love would make my heart her ransom

٦. ما كُنتُ أَحسبُ قبل فُرقتنا
أن سوفَ تغلقُ مُهجَتي رَهنا

7. I asked the guide of their caravan about her
He said she traveled on with us

٧. وَلَقَد سأَلتُ عَريفَ ركبِهمُ
عنها فقال ترحَّلت مَعنا

8. May her dwelling be with a loving partner
If she and I could have stayed together

٨. لِلَّه مسكنُها على إِضمٍ
لَو دامَ لي وَلهاً به السُكنى

9. When the meadow of my youth was verdant
Soft, and the branch of my youthfulness supple

٩. إِذ كانَ رَوضُ صَبابَتي نَضِراً
غضّاً وغصنُ شَبيبَتي لُدنا

10. Days she made happy just by her visit
My bliss, and all my smoothest milk, cream

١٠. أَيّامَ تُسعدني بزورتِها
سُعدى وَكُلُّ لُبانتي لُبنى

11. I did not forget her though distance pained her
Showing consolation yet hiding her sadness

١١. لَم أَنسَها وَالبينُ يُزعجها
تُبدي العزاءَ وتكتم الحُزنا

12. Until the departure made serious by her
The tracks of her tears flowed copiously

١٢. حتّى إِذا جدَّ الرَحيلُ بها
بلَّت سجالُ دموعِها الرُدنا

13. Alas for her who left me inhabiting
My love when she tried to wound me

١٣. واهاً لَها من غادةٍ سكنت
منّي الحشى إِذ حاولت ظَعنا

14. I sold her my soul without a price
Of my deal I do not complain of fraud

١٤. قد بعتُها روحي بلا ثَمَنٍ
لا أَشتَكي في صفقتي غَبنا

15. A coquette who tells of the coquetry of dawn
But the dawn of her forehead is most radiant

١٥. غَرّاء يَحكي الصبحُ غرَّتها
لكنَّ صبحَ جبينها أَسنى

16. She rises over her companions like a full moon
And exceeds the radiance of her friends in beauty

١٦. تَربو على أَترابها حَفَراً
وَتَفوقُ غرَّ لِداتها حُسنا

17. She let down her tresses over a moon
And bent over the curvature of a tender twig

١٧. نشرت ذوائبَها عَلى قَمَرٍ
وَثَنَت على حِقفِ النَقا غُصنا

18. What gorgeous beauty was revealed to me
If only her beauty could intercede for me

١٨. لِلَّه أَيُّ محاسنٍ جُليت
لَو كانَ يَشفعُ حسنَها حُسنى

19. A counselor who lavishes on me
Advice without any meaning

١٩. وَمؤنِّبٍ فيها يُزخرفُ لي
نُصحاً وَلَيسَ لنُصحه مَعنى

20. Neither does his concern or his anguish console me
My sorrowful heart and my exhausted body

٢٠. ما ضرَّه همّي ولا وَصَبي
قَلبي الكَئيبُ وجسمي المُضنى

21. Alas! Solace cannot comfort my affliction
Or admonishment make my ear attentive

٢١. هَيهات يُسلي العذلُ لي كَلَفاً
ويطرِّقُ التأنيبُ لي أذنا
