1. O you who attained the eloquence of the Arabs
The utmost of hopes and the end of aspirations

2. And O eloquent one whose eloquence contained
The pearls of meanings and essence of literature

3. And O imam whose rhetoric surpassed
Qais and Quss in poetry and sermons

4. Neither the gentle breeze in its gentleness and softness
Deceived about the smiles of the beloved

5. Nor the vivacious bride laughing
Smiling with a pearl set between her lips

6. Is more delightful and brilliant than a rhyming poem
You gifted to the lover from accumulations

7. It gratified the soul with its pleasure
What ripe grapes could not provide

8. You adorned it with your wondrous composition when
The night was adorned with a string of shooting stars

9. I became infatuated with it in awed delight
Embracing happiness and joy

10. And I pranced about with an ode of a singer
Dressed in a gown of gold

11. Which heart has it not stirred with joy?
Which mind if called did not respond?

12. You made it bear excuses, so with it you stole
The arts of worry from a depressed heart

13. If you do not respond to my call, you are a young man
Who fills the bucket of approval to the brim

14. Glory to your Inspirer with the disposition for
Composition and prose, whatever game it may be

15. May you live a life of heedlessness
Dragging its train across the ages
