1. The passion was quenched, and the pillar revived,
Remembrance conveyed, and tears flowed.
١. سَقى الهَوى فَاِنتَشى العَميدُ
وَالذِكرُ نُقلٌ وَالدَمعُ راح
2. Bliss took my heart away from me,
And clipped the wings of my passion.
٢. مُنىً أَطارَ الفُؤادَ عَنّي
وَقَصَّ مِن شَوقِيَ الجَناح
3. O you who are stingy with consent, though my life
Is spent without account in it.
٣. يا باخِلاً بِالرِضى وَعُمري
يُنفَقُ فيهِ بِلا حِساب
4. You have tormented my heart with estrangement, estrangement,
And your promise to me is like a mirage.
٤. أَصلَيتَ قَلبي هَجيرَ هَجرِ
وَعدُكَ لي فيهِ كَالسَراب
5. You have drowned me in the sea of passion
In which the lifetime of the loved ones passed away.
٥. أَغرَقتَني لِلهَوى بِبَحرِ
عُمرِيَ فيهِ عُمرُ الحَباب
6. So let it make me happy that I am a martyr
Who attained the sweet wishes faultlessly.
٦. فَليَهنَني أننَّي شَهيدُ
أَدرَكتُ حُلوَ المُنى مُباح
7. If you unite me, unite a martyr without sin
You are of the maidens if you reach me.
٧. أَنتَ مِنَ الحورِ إِن تَصِلَني
تَصِل شَهيداً بِلا جُناح
8. To God belongs he who resolved with courage
For the sake of mentioning His name through him
٨. لِلَّهِ مَن هُمتُ في المَلامِ
مِن أَجلِ ذِكرِ اِسمِهِ لَدَيه
9. Did sickness creep into his gaze?
Or the fire of my heart into its eyelids?
٩. هَل دَبَّ في لَحظِهِ سَقامي
أَو نارُ قَلبي في وَجنَتَيهِ
10. In his cheek the grace of swords,
And its sharpness between his eyelashes.
١٠. في خَدِّهِ رَونَقُ الحُسامِ
وَحَدُّهُ بَينَ مُقلَتَيهِ
11. He allowed my soul as he wished,
God has gladdened him for attaining it.
١١. أَباحَ نَفسي كَما يُريدُ
هَنَّأَهُ اللَهُ ما اِستَباح
12. I almost fell for abstaining
Because he has righteousness through it.
١٢. قَد كُدتُ أَن أَعشَقَ التَجَنّي
لِأَنَّهُ عِندَهُ صَلاح
13. The breasts were straitened by his estrangement,
And of his state much was said and told.
١٣. ضاقَت لِهِجرانِهِ الصُدورُ
وَعَن حَلاهُ قالٌ وَقيل
14. My eyes for him are a copious spring of tears,
His face is the garden I walk through.
١٤. عَيني بِهِ لِلبُكا غَديرُ
رَوضَتُهُ وَجهُهُ الجَميل
15. I sold my evenings short because of him
But my nights because of him are long.
١٥. باعُ سُلُوّي بِهِ قَصيرُ
لَكِنَّ لَيلي بِهِ طَويلُ
16. Stillness from its wings is for the sea,
My tears of lament flowed to him.
١٦. لِلبَحرِ عَن جُنحِهِ جُمودُ
سالت لَهُ أَدمُعي السِفاح
17. As if my eyelids extended
What overflowed from the brook of purity.
١٧. كَأَنَّما مَدَّ ما جُفوني
ما غاضَ مِن جَدوَلِ الصِفاح
18. I wished the straightness of his stature
Would heal those who are drawing their last breaths.
١٨. وَدَدتُ أَنَّ اِعتِدالَ قَدِّه
يَشفي بِهِ مَن عَلى رَمَق
19. Or the softness in the skin of his cheek
Would seep into his heart so it would quiver.
١٩. أَو رِقَّةَ في أَديمِ خَدِّه
سَرَت إِلى قَلبِهِ فَرَقّ
20. My tears flow red from his distance
As the sun pursues the sunset.
٢٠. تَجري دُموعي حُمراً لِبُعدِهِ
كَالشَمسِ إِذ تَعقُبُ الشَفَق
21. A gazelle fearing the adversities,
From his glances, swords.
٢١. ريمُ صَريمٍ تَخشى الكَتائِب
مِن لَحظَتَيهِ صَوارِما
22. A full moon seeking amulets,
If he were to wear talismans.
٢٢. بَدرُ تَمامٍ تَهوى التَرائِب
لَو قَلَّدَتهُ تَمائِما
23. My desirous one, be pleased or reproach,
I am pleased with you as adversary and judge.
٢٣. ياطَلَبِيُّ اِرضَ أَو فَعاتِب
أَرضاكَ خَصماً وَحاكِما
24. Leave my love be, O you who blame,
His beauty does the work of sailors.
٢٤. خَلِّ حَبيبي عَلى صُدودُ
مَليحَهُ ما يَعمَلُ المِلاح
25. And unite me with Abu Bakr or estrange me,
I have no suggestions to him in passion.
٢٥. وَصَلَني بو بَكرٍ أَو هَجَرَني
لِس لي عَلَيهِ في الهَوى اِقتِراح
