1. He represents for me the path of righteousness with his promise
The garden of Paradise is sprinkled with the coolness of its blessing

2. The stars are dazzled by its reflection and sometimes
The branches of the garden die of grief for him

3. I clung to the full moon of bliss or attained the one
Whose glance my soul hopes for some of his bliss

4. His gaze related in illness and transgressed
To us a third in that covenant of his pledge

5. And his eyelash mounted me on the steed of passion
And his tear illuminated me with the radiance of his cheek

6. And his grief allured my heart with sorrow’s consent
And his rose-cheek gave me the water of consent

7. His cheek competes with my heart in throbbing
And the night of his repulse tells of my sigh’s extension

8. And musk is not devoid of the passion of its moles even if
Musk becomes imbued with its intensity

9. So no Bedouin woman who departed from her abode
Yearned for the dwellings of Hejaz and its youths

10. When she noticed a caravan, her passion
Would undertake with the fire of her villages and her tears as provision

11. And if a lamp were lit she would think it a lightning
That gives life so she would rush to greet it

12. With greater passion than mine for Moses and yet
He sees me as having sinned a sin in his love

13. I am the poor beseeching questioner who has come seeking
An answer even if the answer is his refusal

14. A lover who sees in death a wish perhaps
The visitation of his grave will be lighter for Moses
