1. The Blameworthy Notions
Tempt desire with metaphor
١. خَطَرَاتُ المَلامِ
تُغرِي الهَوَى باستِعارِ
2. They agitated my light
And the wind aids the evildoers
٢. هِيَ هَاجَتُ أُوَارِي
وَالرّيحُ عَونُ الشِّرَارِ
3. Tell the critiquer leave me be
And spare me your son's blame
٣. قُل للاَحِ نَهَانِي
دَعنِي وَدِينَ ابنش هَانِي
4. What cheek blamed me
With a rose like paint
٤. أيّ خَدّ دَهَانِي
بَوَردةٍ كَالدّهَانِ
5. It showed the two gardens
From it not a grain was obtained
٥. أبدَتِ الجَنتَانِ
مِنهُ جَنَى غَيرَ دَانِ
6. And behind the veil
Is a garden with scattered blossoms
٦. وَوَرَاءَ اللِّثَامِ
رَوضٌ ثَمِينُ النِّثَارِ
7. And between the wraps
A lion roars from the thickets
٧. وَخِلاَلَ الإزَارِ
زاهٍ مِنَ الدّعصِ زَأرِ
8. And the beauty of a beloved doe
Betrayed me in it, my ally
٨. فَتكُ لَيثٍ هَصُورِ
وحُسنُ ظَبيٍ رَبِيب
9. And my beloved left me
A traveller away from my shining light
٩. خَانَ فِيهِ نَصِيرِي
وَجَفَانِي حَبِيب
10. And with a smile away from my companion
What blossom for the darkness
١٠. سَافِرٌ عَن مُنِيرِ
وَبَاسِمٍ عَن شَنِيب
11. And what light for the walkway
They both judged the small
١١. أيّ وِردٍ لِظَامِ
وأيّ ضَوءٍ لِسَارِ
12. Whether it be pearl or pebbles
A sprout whose pasture was pleasant
١٢. حَكَمَا بِالصَّغَارِ
لِلدّرِّ أو لِلدّرَارِي
13. In the pasture of fiery youth
It originated in the heart
١٣. رَشَأٌ طَابَ مَرعَاهُ
فِي مَرتَعِ شَبّ نَاره
14. So the heart became its abode
A blade whose look is defiant
١٤. كَان في الصّدرِ منشاهُ
فَأصبَحَ الصَّدرُ دَارَه
15. It shakes the souls with its heat
I avoided the listlessness of blemishes
١٥. صَارِمٌ حُسنُ مَرآهُ
يَنِي النُّفُوسَ غِرَارَه
16. With the flair that is in it
And its flair distracted me
١٦. رُمتُ نَقعَ الأوَامِ
مِن رَونَقٍ فِيهِ جَارِ
17. From fear of that rebuke
Take my heart with your strength
١٧. وَعَدَانِي اغتِرَارِي
عَن خَوفِ ذَاكَ العِذارِ
18. Oh you who tires those eyelids
Oh Jouya son of Dhrouh
١٨. خُذ فَؤَادِي بِقُوّه
يََاضعفَ تِلكَ الجُفُونِ
19. For ribs and eyes
Oh Naeema and passion
١٩. يا جي يا ابن ذروه
لأضلُعِ وَعُيُون
20. You are my creed and religion
You led me to the baths
٢٠. يا نعيما وشقوه
ومرآك والحب ديني
21. So go away with your strong wounds
How can my face of victory be
٢١. قُدتَنِي لِلحِمَامِ
فاذهب بجرح جُبَار
22. When the sun is the place of my revenge
By my father a persistent lover
٢٢. كَيفَ وَجهُ انتِصَارِي
وَالشَّمسُ مَوضِعُ ثأرِي
23. Evil in his deeds and praiseworthy
Tie him who destroyed the sick man
٢٣. بأبي مُستَصِيلٌ
يَسُوءُ صُنعاً ويُحمَد
24. So be gentle with him, oh Muhammad
And his mother, oh stingy one
٢٤. قيد أودى العليل
فارفق به يا محمد
25. With speech from you
٢٥. وَاميه يَا بَخِيل
