1. We clung to the trunk that stretched its
Boughs while the clouds spread their floral rug,
١. عُجْنَا إِلى الجِزْعِ الذي مَدَّ في
أرجائِه الغيمُ بِساطَ الزَّهَرْ
2. Around a pool whose water complained to
The slender waists of the Pleiades.
٢. حولَ غديرٍ ماؤهُ المنتمي
إِلى بناتِ المُزْنِ يشكو الخَصَرْ
3. Had the wind sought refuge in its poison,
It would have reverted, being the morning breeze.
٣. لو لاذتِ الريحُ سَموماً به
لانقلبتْ وهي نَسيمُ السَّحَرْ
4. Its pebbles are pearls and its gravel
Is chamomile flowers around the gems.
٤. حصباؤهُ دُرٌّ ورَضْرَاضُهُ
سُحالةُ العسجدِ حولَ الدررْ
5. The wind wove it a coat of her own weaving
To meet the arrows of rain.
٥. وقد كَستْهُ الريحُ من نَسْجِها
دِرْعاً به يلقى نِبَالَ المَطَرْ
6. The sun dressed it in her own light
To seize the sight’s light.
٦. وألبَستْهُ الشمسُ من ضوئِها
نوراً به يَخْطَفُ نورَ البَصَرْ
7. It is like a polished mirror
On a green carpet that is unrolled.
٧. كأنها المرآة مجلوَّةً
على بِساطٍ أخضرٍ قد نُشِرْ
