1. Leave me to my character, bright as the sun
I know well how to pass and repeal decrees

2. I give more when at ease, out of gracious humility
And withdraw when hardship makes me guard my honor

3. For in ease I gain praise by generosity
And in hardship protect my dignity

4. I see the branch stripped bare as it reaches to the sky
And bowed down by fruit when nearing the ground
