1. He traveled in the dark night wearing a piece of it
My beloved leaned toward me so I greeted him

2. So for this shy glance that emptied its quiver
And settled in the forest knocking gently

3. He crossed the proud, straight legs of Al-Samhari
And waded through the ranks of Al-Aujai weeping

4. He traveled all night until we embraced and still
My tears covered his cheeks steadily streaming

5. So we spent the night despite the envious happily
Entwined, never sleeping, just daydreaming

6. Rumors of strangers left nothing for us
Except imagined meetings kept secret between us

7. So I let the spies know of our secret that
With my kiss I erased his sweet lips completely

8. I'll never forget our farewell though time
Erases the handclasp and wrist that held me

9. A furtive glance 'tween spy and critic
Is sweeter than purest water from a stream

10. Our stand during the pain of parting was more
Rewarding than patience itself it did seem

11. We waved good-bye with skulls screaming in our hearts
And wiped cheeks with hands that could not stop their gleaming

12. An evening when the two valleys filled for those
Between them with yearning from an Arab or foreigner

13. One sees the light of love hiding its longing
While the other reveals his sadness and inner grief

14. The one groomed his camel, complaining
While the other's birdsong grew loud and effusive

15. Sways the bracelets' rhythm to woolen tents
Dancing to music awake or asleep

16. Fate twisted their faith so they took to their hands
Swords to gain glory and blood they would reap

17. Sometimes if they suspected a threat they would
Attack the menace before it crept nearer

18. They regarded each horseman as if he were
Grasping a branch or chasing an ostrich or deer

19. They deterred him with arrows precisely shot
Or frightened him off with a terrible scream

20. They rode through the night to remove the veil
Of darkness for dawn's face to glow and beam

21. Scowling time frowned at them so they shone in its face
Meteors of faith til time had to smile and redeem

22. With dread ferocity sparing no criminal
With comfort and mercy destroying no home or regime

23. High aspirations drove them to glory
Shared bounty and courage taught fortune to esteem

24. Brothers of conquest whose capture
Escaped the mind so struggle was masked by its dream

25. Since Adam ruled kindly o'er them
Camped permanently with them, not just itinerant it seemed

26. What escaped them in ages ago
They now saw with patience, focused and keen

27. When they perceived the slightest weakness in a regime
They rushed to mend it before more unraveling at the seam

28. For them the planets spun helpfully and the full moon's face
Showed its crescent before them brightly beaming

29. They milked the cheek of time for their glory
And protected the heights lest they tumble or teeter and lean

30. By God, without man its pages would be
Barren, today a cold and lightless ream

31. Without mercy after punishing, its honey
Would turn to bitter trees all sagging and green

32. Without the dew of his palms, his ferocity
Would have hunted the enemy, straight and lean

33. He gave a look to his foes so their joints
Melted before him into flesh, marrow and spleen

34. He glanced back toward his friends so they woke
To find themselves returned to their joyous routines

35. Features of guidance appeared on the horizon
As stars of glory ascending, brightly gleaming

36. Whenever a verse was copied from the chapter of glory
It came to them as revelation, pristine and clean

37. They accompanied his legacy loyally
Judging the unknown with wisdom serene

38. The stars saw his bounty and fluttered
Fearing to be given alone, not as a team

39. Truly, if his palm could contain the full moon
It would suffice for his well-being as payment, it seems

40. It's no wonder his words are like pearls
Circling our necks, refined and esteemed

41. When his eloquence reigns supreme, you'd think
His words rain down pearls violently streaming

42. To you, Sun of the Faith and pillar of its people
I send this poem to the Aujai as fitting requiem

43. Acquaint them with the landmarks though ignorant
Make them weep whose tears are reserved and unseen

44. I obey my longing and blessings that
Silence critics and make jealous ones scream

45. Because of you virtues astound the valiant
Tempting the Nejdi and inspiring the obscene

46. Your light of faith adorns them so they don
The finest clothes of kindness routinely

47. I hope to establish my kingdom through your grace
And you remain in mine blessed and serene
