1. After your day, the grief-stricken has naught
But wailing and lament of the bereaved

2. A day when religion was struck and its rulings suspended
As though it had never been legislated

3. The rulings of misguidance grew rampant
And the hands of fate reached to the highest status

4. The eclipse leaned over the faded crescent
And the crack of the orator thundered loud

5. And he who we feared the mention of is gone
The turns of time left him no return

6. His destiny led him as if driving
A roaming camel in the barren desert

7. Who has seen the shining full moon fall
Into the sand and the high sand dunes and heard of his death

8. Who has seen the fierce lion felled by his might
Lying dead in the open wilderness

9. Who has seen the veiled King appear
Cast aside to the station of the humbled weak

10. Who has seen the haughty led by the hand of death
With a submissive palm to his pliant neck

11. Honor me by allowing my eyes
To roam freely, none but you at their fore

12. Honor me by having everyone feel safe
After you, every tossing turner in bed

13. Honor me by your open defiance
Of those who shunned you amongst the armored men

14. What could fate have done if it pardoned us
The day we met the most noble and virtuous

15. What could the doubt of death have done if only
It would accept our sacrifice that we may ransom you

16. My longing for you is for one seeking refuge
Support from you though he has no other escape

17. My longing for you is for one fearful and hopeful
And disputing his rights, warding off harm

18. My longing for you is for a group you left
Prey to the sly and ravenous wolves

19. I did not expect that a mishap would befall you
Handing the reins over to an obedient hand

20. I did not expect that you would be deaf to one
Calling you openly and you able to hear

21. After your day, who is left for the noble ones
Who weep over you now that the best is gone

22. After you, who remains for the displaced migrants
Whose hopes migrated to the generous threshold

23. They journeyed far and roamed ceaselessly
And wandered the paths of desolation

24. Until when they heard of your day, they unpacked
Their belongings, barren and shaken

25. The resolute goals that do not bend
From what they seek to obtain from the Impenetrable

26. You stood where the sword sparkled brightly
Neither trembling with fear nor displaying weakness

27. In a stand amongst swords and spears
A breach and a day of horrid evil

28. Baring your arm and fighting vigorously
While others shook in coats of mail and armor

29. You hated the worn words and found no joy
In pardoning while shackled and pleading

30. The world was too narrow for you so you shunned its vicinity
And headed for eternity, a most honorable retreat

31. O citadel of Islam now desolate without you
For it is a target for every traitor and saboteur

32. O you who hopes his devotees will rise to his victory
Contending with a claim or call unheeded

33. But Allah's servants whom he entrusted
Failed to defend against every dangerous scheme

34. They plunged into ambushes but then became reluctant
And abandoned it, nearing the places of death

35. They were hasty to flee at the encounter and left behind
The steadfast brave who did not hastily flee

36. May his mother be bereft of victory if his men
Marched not against the enemy bound wrist-to-wrist

37. And returned him until when the fight intensified
They shielded him, not to be lifted from his place

38. After him, who will defend the ways of faith
With eloquent words and sincere intentions

39. After him, who will extend to the enemies
Selling hopes short and ambitions unfulfilled

40. After him, who will attempt a lofty goal made hard
For its seekers and uncharted territory

41. And openly dishonor the lack of might of the Lord of Lords
Until His weakened Pillar trembles to its foundations

42. None are left to be praised since you left
Or pointed at with a finger in your absence

43. From where after you comes one who is feared or hoped for
Fear has ceased and the door of hopes is shut

44. You remained sleepless watching for a glorious chance
Missed by drowsy eyes in their slumber

45. Leaving the tyrants confused with your affair on high
Between sorrow in the dust and black darkness

46. You tasked the gray-haired elders with a goal
That sends insomnia to bright eyes awake

47. As if destiny was determined to guide
To moderation, not to be exceeded

48. The sanctuary of protected family in battle is not
Respected by you, nor the guarantee of armor

49. Until passion seizes you and you find no
Help against the spark of piercing blades

50. Of no use to you were steeds whose necks
Were like towering pillars shaking to their foundations

51. And warriors who overcome necks and youths
Wild, dragging the sword and claiming courage

52. Where are the towering fortresses whose loss
Is the pride of the weak and protection of the abstainer

53. Where are the treasures you amassed for disasters
Feared for their first signs and dangerous schemes

54. Where are the mature she-camels heading to battle
Charging from behind hill and dune unseen

55. Where are the swords that circle in their sheaths
As dear moments bid farewell escorted by grief

56. Where are the veils - when viewed their visitors
Prostrate and bow down worshipping

57. Time advised us and called loudly announcing
Its flaws, if only a listening ear would heed

58. Its gentle counsels but none sensed them
Except the wise whose knowledge was of no use

59. Why the blame and companions who are led
By rushing steeds leaving the slow behind

60. Who fools you to remain, fleeting ones
Who do not pause or those gone never to return

61. The certainty of parting has cut off all hope
Of remaining, for parting is the end of all gatherings

62. Tears precede the newborn's cry, knowing
Of death, he and his fate already destined

63. Naught remains of the generations of mankind
Except news of their sunset after dawn

64. All proceed to what they hope so one bold
By the sword is more tranquil than the pained

65. O grave into which a scroll of dew has been emptied
Wear for it the garb of gardens and bloom

66. O grave into which the sea has poured, leave
No brine for people around you and be ever cleansing

67. O grave into which the full moon has set, be
Ever bright after it, illuminating the horizon

68. No surprise you contain chivalry, piety
Religion, worldly joys - never cracking or splitting

69. Verily gazes and hearts are small
Containing the great with no difficulty

70. Their depths were rent by thundering clouds
And poured on you torrents of tears

71. Becoming over you dripping from the clouds
Your surface soaked with cascading sins

72. The breeze blew its soul into your soil
Flowing over your resting place never blocked

73. It split open its pockets, cloudbursts
With thunder and watered you with a flood of tears

74. Becoming over you sprinklings from the clouds
Drenching your open ground with streaming sins

75. The breeze spilled its soul upon your grave
Flowing over your place of rest unhindered
