1. Who will do me justice against an unjust man who holds power over me?
He denied my rights though he knew them well,
١. مَن مُنصِفي مِن ظَلومٍ صارَ في يَدِهِ
حُكمي فَأَنكَرَ حَقّي وَهوَ يَعرِفُهُ
2. How can he hope to succeed in his rule
When his affairs are in the hands of one who does not do justice?
٢. وَكَيفَ يَرجو فَلاحاً في حُكومَتِهِ
مَن أَمرُهُ في يَدَيْ مَن لَيسَ يُنصِفُهُ
3. He does me wrong despite my kindness to him, so neither my complaints avail, nor my trials soften him,
I and he are in my kindness and his harshness,
٣. يُسِيءُ بي عندَ إحساني إليه فلا
شَكوايَ تُجْدي ولا بَلوايَ تُعْطِفُهُ
4. Like the candle and the fire - it gives him life and consumes it.
٤. إني وإياهُ في برّي وجفوتِه
كالشمعِ والنار يُحييهَا وتُتْلِفُهُ
