1. Have some resolve, O my heart
For passion is difficult to attain

2. The loved ones have judged yet not forgiven
My only sin is my love for them

3. They overpowered my weakness with their strength
That's not how companions behave

4. Whom shall I blame for their misdeeds
My heart sides with passion against me

5. By Allah, my heart is not alone
In love, all my limbs are my heart

6. Their trysts make me
Euphoric though I know they lie

7. And I fool myself hoping in them
Enchanted by them

8. What business have I with the caravan when they thought
Reproach would pacify me

9. Reproach is the easiest I can endure
If only the caravan knew what was inside me

10. O you who stand where the loved ones departed
Where the vale meets the rugged cliff

11. A land whose breeze ignites it
Making the youth sick and the soil languid

12. Its soil is curly and its dew
Sweet, the tail of its breeze damp

13. I cry for it an age I spent
Loving it yet my love is never fulfilled

14. Its moments are furtive, its pleasures
Stolen, its bliss plundered

15. A hostile fate who never sensed it
Doubtful, never heeding its plight

16. I told the critic its flaws
Sweating its meat, the hump

17. Swaying, urged by desire
Dissuaded by caution

18. Rejoice, for days of glorious kingdom and fertility await you
Days that guarantee its joy

19. That barrenness will never mar its demise
It submitted to his obedience

20. The hunt of kings and the mighty bowed
He whose advance is might

21. And soldiers, awe
He restored matters to their facts

22. Until prominence assumed its role
And protected the sanctity of the kingdom, disgusted

23. That play had twisted duty
And cured the virulent disease though

24. The healers despaired and medicine failed
And established awe among the troops

25. Till purity flowed for the state
So ties grew calm after chaos

26. And discord escalated into rebellion
And the white blades returned to

27. Their sheaths, neither stabbing nor striking
After time had raided them

28. Unleashing its virgins and war spilled over
In a time when tyrants forgot

29. And the formed and formless conjoined
With resolve, had it roared for the wind

30. No mountain could withstand it
And gentleness, had it patched

31. The glass escarpment, the cliffs would conform
And policy whose zeal protects it

32. Melting its spears in their sheaths
And the radiant, rosy dawn coaxed

33. With glory, its right hand pouring
For its poles, devotees from its joy

34. And for its clemency, allies against its might
The bitterness in its frown

35. Is gentleness, its lance's script rigid
Its resolve never famously spread east

36. Except the west bowed to its edge
Its views, like its speech, are correct

37. Its tongue like its sword, sharp
No pitch-dark riddle was named

38. Without its name dispelling gloom
Haughty to the delegates is its ambition

39. While between it and them, a screen
A far-seeing perspective assisted it

40. Generosity, an easily-drawn freshwater spring
A verdure, had the clouds lent it aid

41. Their convoy could not contain its meadows
A loftiness, had the sun reached it

42. The comets would bow before its face
And a severity, had its right hand

43. Unleashed a sword, its edge would not dull
Its fire does not wane, nor does its hand

44. Flag, nor its advance, recoil
It led the masses, no hatred distancing it

45. Nor love drawing it near
And it spent wealth without fatigue

46. In what it produces or usurpation
His generosity flowed freely, no resistance

47. No bitterness and no partisanship
While others' generosity was strained

48. Bitterly, never filling their hands
Had it not been for the lateness of its time

49. Quranic verses and books would have descended extolling it
Take it embellished, before which gardens wilt

50. And veins contract in shame
And delight, far from foreigners, exulting

51. In your state of giving and withholding
Dissent overwhelmed people while

52. Foreigners and Arabs concurred in it and you
