1. O dweller of the palace in heedlessness,
Remember death and the abode of madness.

2. Do you feel secure from Allah's cunning that will overcome you
In your night or your day, do not feel secure!

3. There is no shelter from the Fire except piety
And righteousness, so adhere to it and do not be tempted.

4. If the dead could speak to you all,
He would call out: Indeed I found righteousness the soundest shelter against madness.

5. I placed what strength and favor I was given
In defiant ingratitude to the Lord of bounty.

6. If what evil you sent forth in the past
Has wearied Allah, then do not persist.

7. And if you feel secure from death, then rejoice in what
You are given in this life and do not grieve.
