1. A year has passed unnoticed by anyone
Like yesterday that has passed into eternity

2. Today is longer than you in torment
Burning with love like embers aflame

3. Since you bid farewell and left
Hardships remain without you, suppressed longings

4. Until time tempts us nor
Does any solace come with what tomorrow brings

5. Years go by in succession
Yet life does not tire of effort

6. The soul aspires, hopes disappointed
Fate does not fulfill what it promises

7. A world that makes us laugh and weep
Mocking us, bringing woes untold

8. Oh year! Neither darkness lifts nor
Does the bulbul's morning song ring out

9. Your endless troubles have piled up
As have sorrows, misery and woe

10. Fate is crueller than you, shaken
By those armies and numbers

11. The earth erupts in flames for mankind
Destroying men and all they lit

12. The fighting has gone on, a massacre
Where reason and sanity lose their way

13. The soil complains, drinking in blood
Spilled wantonly, no wergild or revenge

14. If victory they sought is delayed
And the goal they aimed for is far

15. There must come a day when
God grants them victory and easeful life

16. No peace can return to this world
That will banish wars for good

17. Their defense - God's victory granted -
They rose up for truth and struggled

18. No sanctuary of His can be despoiled
Where the lion dies defending its lair

19. Greet the greatest state risen
For justice, justly treating all

20. Time has brought forth an unprecedented marvel
Adorning itself in raiment ever new

21. In its realms, science thrives
Walking with wisdom hand in hand

22. They took the old and made it new
With their inventions and sound critique

23. Secured success backs their endeavor
With knowledge, zeal and effort fused

24. Tongue and heart both shine
As column and arch supporting each other

25. They gave their riches freely
To champion the truth, all dependence on God

26. Say to tomorrow's foe the seas' daughter
Will wake and with dread force strike

27. An army on land so numerous
It has no count of men or horses

28. Behind them on the waves a fleet
Mighty mountains, their charge turbulent seas

29. Above them flocks of eagles
When their fires flash lightnings response

30. Have you any reinforcements now they have arrived
To roast you in Hell supported by their hordes

31. Oh year! Time has frightened you
And toppled the established throne

32. Two thrones in this world by their Lord
Have fallen, betrayed by their pillars

33. The petty one who betrayed the pillar
Was stripped by none but the eminent one

34. For God a noble leader arose
Exalted by God may he be aided

35. After God he tends to his flock
For mentioning God they bow down

36. God ordains evil for those who hide the truth
And grace for those who give thanks and praise

37. Lord of guardianship and guidance - through them
He is almost worshipped as the worshipped One

38. Lord of the armies - their places of deployment
Are like sea billows, their steeds the foam

39. Lord of supremacy - were He to extend a hand
It would touch the heavens, so high has He reached

40. The crown was lifted from him today
No crown now he wears

41. Today they rejected him though once
They had embraced the faith as their creed

42. Today they dismissed his gifts
Showing ingratitude after thanks

43. Today in their citadels they cast him
By destiny's decree - no ascent for him

44. The nights' lesson - they succeed
Against people, did people only heed

45. Oh year! As the days slip by
If only you would pause, time suspended

46. You pass and do not cool our blaze
With patience or heal our suffering souls

47. We spent our lives with you yet
Nothing of life with you we recover

48. Lo! life is fleeting and round its edges
Trembles the darkness in dread

49. Mankind lost in life, ceaseless
Rivalry and envy unrelenting

50. Death takes them pulled by their desires,
Spirit and flesh in futile contention

51. Until he settles them in a wasteland
Where old and young are rendered equal

52. And there comes a day when for years
No meaning remains nor count nor number

53. The cosmos grows still, none residing
But wandering shadows to drive out

54. Life passes and all who breathed fade
Only the Eternal God remains
