1. I see the sea as a mirror of this life
It mimics its vastness in extent

2. And its dimensions are like its dimensions
Too profound for the mind to comprehend

3. It is serene and peaceful, sheer joy
Delighting the world in sight and sound

4. Yet if turbulent, the distress of the elements
Is like the distress of troubled souls in conflict

5. And it waylays the journey of existence deceitfully
As it waylays the journey of the ship deceitfully

6. Neither has it feared fortresses against it
Nor has it feared sails against it

7. And God has set a limit for it
And a limit for our lifespans and cessation

8. And unleashed the fierceness of winds upon it
And the fierceness of afflictions upon us in succession

9. So we are like its fish in existence
The big swallowing the small in predation

10. And our lifespans are like its motions
Lowering when different, raising when uniform

11. And our days are like its waves
Coming quickly and passing quickly
