To the darkness and the grave?

5. The days betrayed you though faithful
And time is inclined to betrayal

6. The fever overcame you and melted you away
As camphor melts away in fire

7. If only it knew, it would have turned
Into a coolness upon you, if only it knew

8. How it blazed within you, taking away
All your beautiful qualities from us

9. Neither your youth nor the best medicine
Could drive away the fever

10. And medicine is but life's tricks, for
Destiny's decree rules all matters

11. What did you gain from life? What
Remained except sickness and harm?

12. Few are the tears flowing for you
If only our souls could flow instead

13. You were the sky and all its adornment
Yet today you are folded away, unspread

14. O garden where poisons have passed
And turned you from a garden to desert

15. The boughs of the garden mourn
At the terrible death of your fresh branch

16. And the garden's blossoms have withered
On the dying breaths from the flowers

17. You were life itself, passed without hope
You were youth itself, gone without heed

18. Who was more radiant than you, abundant
With joy and gladness between us?

19. Who was wiser than you, observing
The wise one's view of puzzling fate?

20. Who rose over my years like you did
Your dawn matching the dawn's rise?

21. Who was purer at heart than you
Whose heart was steeped in pureness?

22. Who laughed sweeter than you
Living in secret and openly?

23. Truly the loss in you was immense
When an undeserved sin came to you

24. We do not desire patience from you
Nor hope for reward from it

25. God be with us when you left
And left us nothing but memories
