1. God watered the edges of Al-Kunafah with rain
And blessed it with abundant, ever-flowing sugar

2. Alas for wasted times - they
Pass without benefit and are counted from my life

3. I yearn with love whenever the beloved is mentioned
And the beloved is nothing but the train at Si'r

4. And I long if the breezes blow from the robes
Of pre-dawn, enchanting and fragrant prose

5. And I have a wife - if she desires Cairo
I say to her "What is Cairo in Egypt?"
