1. May Allah excuse whatever passed in idleness,
And whatever I gained from the Prophet's tomb in Medina.

2. A lifetime has passed in which I was not connected
To the best of messengers and the best prophet.

3. Goodness to you, O best of all prophets,
And by your grace no one was in need of proof.

4. Your door on the day of fear is the greatest refuge,
It calms us from the heat of every illness.

5. For your glory we take refuge when we fear hell,
So your glory is shaded there, shaded and beautiful.

6. Perhaps my time will take me to my inevitable fate,
And before destruction I will be happy to arrive.

7. By my life, I do hope to arrive in Yathrib,
And it is enough for me there that I am a wayfarer.

8. I indulged in passions when passion once ruled,
As long as that passion was no meager thing.

9. I wore the garb of disobedience for a long time,
And in my youth I dragged its train behind me.

10. I sought the forgiveness of Allah secretly and openly,
To be endowed with graceful cover on Judgment Day.
