1. O Jamal al-Din, I have a right
Upon the Master and his sanctuary,

2. And a loyalty he has affirmed
Through service that follows his service.

3. And for your slave there is a care
He can no longer conceal,

4. The cold has attacked him
In repeated assaults.

5. Do not ask after him, for this separation
Has broken his bones.

6. And he has a trace like a wrap
Effaced by time.

7. He died of cold, and whoever
Saw him did not properly bury him.

8. So as he is peeled away from it
In the remnants of cotton is his frame.

9. You are in generosity a prophet,
And he in your love a mother.
